Chapter 451
At that same moment, Layla and Daphne were both overjoyed in their live stream. A large portion
of people who watched the stream only did so because of Eddy’s and his second uncle’s reputation.
The fact that Daphne was Eddy’s second aunt wasn’t a secret anymore. Meanwhile, Layla had been
showing up with Eddy frequently during this time. Privately, she was known as Eddy’s girlfriend
already.
With the two of them being on the same live stream, it naturally attracted lots of intrigued people.
The comments section was going crazy.
“Ahhh, it’s a dream team. Who would have thought an aunt and a niece–in–law would be such a
great team?”
“Although Layla hasn’t married Mr. Eddy yet, I think it’s going to happen soon.”
“I admire them so much. They seem to have a great relationship!”
These comments and more kept springing up.
Seeing the number of views steadily climbing, Layla smiled. This was exactly the kind of outcome
she wanted.
Layla knew that Eddy’s name would bring in a lot of views and attention.
Everyone was invested in the Morrison family. After all, the most elite family in Easton. They all
wanted to know what went on with them.
The more they chatted, the more sales they got in the stream for her clothes.
There was no need for Daphne to advertise the way others might. Those who clicked into the
stream would buy a couple of items once they saw that Daphne was sponsoring them and that the
price was within a certain range.
Three hours later, the sales reached more than 100 thousand items. It had broken the current
record for hourly sales in a day that had been set during Black Friday sales.
The clothes practically sold themselves, too. It was such easy money.
Seeing such great sales, Layla naturally had to exaggerate it.

Thus, not half an hour later, her name became one of the trending topics on Twitter. Her sales
numbers also became the best proof of her claims.
After all, no one remembered anything on the internet.
Many large media outlets reported on it, and many bought comments kept praising her, turning
Layla into the internet’s most driven boss.
“Wow, she’s amazing. After her company was stolen by Caroline Evans, Layla still didn’t give up.
Now she’s getting her revenge!”
“What a driven person! Reading about her makes me want to go out and do something, too. With
how brave Layla is, she really deserves these sales!”
“No wonder Daphne Dawson was willing to become an ambassador for a new company like
Evanson Corporation instead of Evans Group.
“I wouldn’t like Caroline Evans either. She already has all the best resources, but she wanted to
steal someone else’s. Disgusting!”
“I think, without Caroline, Layla will achieve even greater goals.”
“Didn’t Caroline cut off her relationship with Evans Group? Why did she steal the company? How
shameless!”
“Haha. She’s always been that shameless. She always knew that Mr. Eddy liked Layla, but she
refused to break off their engagement.
“I heard she took a risk when she did it. She wanted to use her own married status to make Mr.
Eddy regret it, but it backfired! It’s so funny.”
“She already got married, but she wanted to use that to make Mr. Eddy regret it? What kind of
logic is that?”
“She probably thought she was very important to Mr. Eddy and wanted to emulate those romance
novels. Too bad her gamble didn’t pay off. And now she’s still stuck in that marriage of hers.”
These were the sorts of comments that popped up. Under Layla’s direction, there were only two
kinds of responses online.
One praised Layla without end. The other made Caroline sound lower than dirt. These two voices
quickly brought everyone involved to the top of the list of trending topics.
Chapter 452
Caroline only found out that her name had trended the next day.
She didn’t pay much attention to that kind of thing and only realized it because she had been
checking the views on Sonia’s new webseries.
“Since last night until now, the accumulated views hasn’t even broken five million yet,” the head
of the advertising department said with a frown, rapping the desk in the conference room.
“Ms. Evans, I don’t think the show will become popular.”
Caroline’s expression was indifferent.
The head of the marketing department used this opportunity to ask, “Ms. Evans, shouldn’t we
adjust our strategy? The plan of waiting for our ambassador’s webseries to go viral has always
been an uncertainty.”
Caroline fiddled with the pen in her hand and stayed silent.
Meanwhile, the heads of some other departments also brought up some suggestions. On the
whole, they agreed with the marketing department head.
They wanted Caroline to switch up the strategy and use Layla’s popularity to make some sales.
Finally, Caroline stopped spinning her pen and looked up at the others.
“Our online branding is a mess right now. If we push our products now, do you really think people
will buy them?”
Her words shut everybody up.
She continued, “Just do your jobs for the next few days, and everything will be fine.”
After that, she walked straight out of the room.
Before she could take a few steps, she found Layla and Emery in the office giving out candy in
celebration of their success.
Caroline strode expressionlessly into her office on her high heels.
Seeing Caroline walk in, Cheryl closed the door and lamented, “How could they just let those
people inside? Don’t they know how to stop strangers from coming in?”

Just as Caroline was about to speak, the door was pushed open, and Layla and Emery waltzed in.
Caroline looked up slightly to meet Layla’s gaze.
“Caroline, you must have watched my live stream last night, right? If you didn’t, it’s a great shame.”
Caroline only smiled shallowly. “Get out!”
“Angry already? How do you expect to be a business owner if you can’t handle losing?” Layla said
tauntingly.
Cheryl said, “Get out. Are you hard of hearing?”
“Don’t be so anxious.”
Layla pushed Cheryl aside and came to stand before the desk. She spread her palms out on the
desk’s surface and glared coldly at Caroline.
“Caroline, I want to see how long you can grit your teeth through this. Hear me: this seat belongs
to me, and I’ll take it back.”
Despite this, Caroline maintained a sedate smile that didn’t waver.
Layla gritted her teeth. “Let’s go.‘

Just you wait. A few more days, and she’ll come to you crying and begging.‘
Hearing this, Layla regained her smile.
At the same time, in Caroline’s office, Cheryl was in a tizzy.
“Caroline, after last night, all the staff are losing hope. If we don’t do something quick, all the
money invested will be gone.
Caroline chuckled. “Cheryl, have you heard of this?”
“Heard of what?”

“Stay the course.” Caroline flipped through the books on her desk.
“If we’re swayed by any small things that happen and don’t trust in our own marketing decisions, that proves that we’re being shortsighted. All we can do now is wait.”
“But…”
Caroline waved a hand. “Let’s keep waiting. Consider this a method of training yourself. Once you survive this, you’ll be one step closer to success.”
Chapter 453
Cheryl realized just how unwavering Caroline’s attitude was.
Countless people came to push her in the next few days, all asking her to take action.
Nevertheless, she remained unmoved.
Caroline remained at ease even when Andrea came to have a meal with her to apologize for
Sonia’s show not becoming popular and delaying her advertising campaign.
Caroline only waved a hand at that and said it was fine.
This caused many people to wonder if she had gone off her rocker. That, or that she was in a panic
and was only pretending to be unaffected.
But Cheryl, who had been by Caroline’s side every day, knew more than anyone that Caroline was
truly completely at ease.
However, her peacefulness was not akin to a puddle of standing water. No, it was the calm before
the storm.
This allowed Cheryl to get over her anxiety and slowly calm down.
This peacefulness persisted until the third day.
Cheryl had been suffering for the past few days. It felt like the days had stretched into a century.
When she saw Sonia’s webseries trending, she raced into Caroline’s office with her tablet at once.
“Caroline, it’s going viral! Sonia’s show is finally trending!”
Caroline gave it a look, but her gaze remained steady.
Seeing this, Cheryl couldn’t help but feel curious. “Why aren’t you excited at all, Caroline?”
“Didn’t I already say before that this show would become popular?”
“I know that.” Cheryl was so excited that she started to become incoherent.
“What I mean is, how did you know it would explode on the third day?”
That was simply mystical. It was amazing to predict that this show would go viral.
Seemingly seeing through what Cheryl was thinking, Caroline smiled. “Let me ask you

“When I saw this action scene, I had the feeling that it would go viral because people haven’t
gotten such a satisfying fight scene in a long time.
“Plus, the pacing of the show is well done, and its story is innovative.”
She added, “Although they didn’t have much budget for advertising at the start, it’s possible to get
popular when they have special enough aspects.
“That way, they’ll get more of a following, and that will attract more viewers. With a good product,
why would anyone worry about popularity?”
Cheryl was so stunned that her mouth stayed open for a long while before she came back to
herself.
She said awkwardly, “Caroline, you asked me to wait before because of this scene, right?”
“That’s right.” Caroline beamed. Her gaze was full of determination.
ale
“Now, it’s our turn to make a move!”
“Alright!” Cheryl was now filled with confidence.
Because Caroline had expected Sonia’s show to trend after three days, all the live stream
equipment had been prepared for it. That night, when Sonia started her stream, lots of people
rushed to watch it.
The first night, they only got 30 thousand item sales, but it was already a number that the company hadn’t dared to expect. After all, they had expected that Caroline would lose to Layla in
this.
Yet Caroline wasn’t very happy with these sales. She told Sonia that the sales for the next day had
to be above 100 thousand items.
This made the staff think once again that Caroline was out of her mind, even though they had
started to warm up to her again.
Then, during the next day’s live stream, they sold out within an hour. There was no other reason

Seeing how their stock had been sold out so quickly, the heads of the advertising and marketing departments exchanged glances with each other.
Neither of them had ever expected that they could sell that many items.
As such, they still hadn’t informed Caroline that the factory had stopped manufacturing their products because it had chosen to fulfill Evanson Corp’s order first instead.
Thinking of how they wouldn’t be able to ship the orders tomorrow, the two of them started
sweating bullets.
“Ms. Evans…” The two braced themselves and went to Caroline.
“We… don’t have the stock to fulfill the orders…”
Caroline regarded them coldly and tossed a contract before them.
“This is the contract I signed with our new manufacturer. Tomorrow, you will go and deal with
order fulfillment.
“This is the first time this has happened, and it’s because we didn’t have enough trust in each
other. If this happens again, you should prepare your resignation letters.”
The two department heads felt unendingly grateful. They wouldn’t dare doubt Caroline ever again.
“Yes, ma’am. Thank you for giving us a second chance, Ms. Evans.”
After saying that, the two made to leave, but Caroline stopped them.
“Hold on.”
With that, they started sweating again.
“Do you have any orders for us, Ms. Evans?”
“Remember to have the previous factory transfer the compensation fee over on time since they
breached the contract.”
Their faces immediately turned ashen. They instantly understood that Caroline had long known
about what had happened.
“Yes, ma’am.”

They left the office and got quite a distance away before they slumped to the ground.
“My fucking God. I really shouldn’t have underestimated her. She’s simply too cunning.”
“She even managed to predict when our brand ambassador’s webseries would go viral. Of course
she knew the factory had halted our order.”
“I used to think she was just a young kid. Now, I really think Ms. Evans is someone not to be
underestimated. Who knows? Maybe Evans Group can reach its former glory in her hands.”
Hearing the advertising department head say this, the marketing department head said, half-
joking, “If that day comes, we’ll be her loyal employees, right?”
As they spoke, they climbed up from the ground, reinvigorated.
Besides them, everyone else in the office was also energized.
Before this, they had to beg shops to sell their products. Now, the shops were turning around to
beg them for their supply instead.
It felt great to be involved in such a comeback.
Compared to the glorious success downstairs, Evanson Corp upstairs felt defeated. They were all
distracted and in a slump.
Indeed, they had outstanding sales on the first day. However, the disadvantages of using Layla and
Daphne to sell their products showed on the second and third days.
Although Daphne was an actress, she wasn’t in many shows.
As for Layla, all she could chat about on the live stream was Eddy. Plus, she couldn’t give too
many details.
If she went too deep into her descriptions, she might break from the character she had
constructed for the public.
After the feeling of novelty passed, the live stream’s views plummeted.
Layla had been so confident before that she had never considered offline sales. Now that their
online sales were so unpopular, it was too late to find shops to take their products.
Just as she was an anxious mess, venting her frustrations by throwing all her stuff, Luke gave
her

Chapter 455
For a moment, Layla failed to react to that statement. It took another moment for her to
understand what Luke meant.
Luke was truly an old hand at this. He was a slippery and cunning businessman.
After Layla’s own marketing campaign, Caroline had negative press hounding her steps. As long
as they tied Sonia to Caroline, Sonia’s sterling reputation would dissipate into nothing.
Thinking of this, Layla rushed the advertising department to have Sonia’s sponsorship
announcement on Twitter go viral.
Because of the comparison with Daphne when the sponsorship announcement was made, Sonia
had gotten on the list of trending topics before. However, that had been two weeks ago.
Now, after her latest boom in popularity, everyone was reminded of the initial announcement.
Layla didn’t stop there. She went a step further.
Beyond having the initial announcement go viral again, Layla had the advertising department get
someone to release fake news on a massive scale.
The news implied that Caroline was the one backing Sonia and had done all this to go against
Layla herself.
She also paid for people to flood the comments, swaying public opinion. Now, netizens all thought
that Caroline had spent all the money on Sonia, not the quality of her clothing.
This caused everyone who had made an order to worry about the clothes‘ quality and try to get a
refund.
At the start, there were only a few dozen refund requests. Later, this shot up to number in the
thousands.
Evans Group’s marketing department head was sweating as he stood by Caroline’s side, watching
the computer before him stall. “What do we do, Ms. Evans?”
Everyone was requesting a refund. He guessed that the offline shop owners would come knocking
on their door next.
Caroline looked at the screen with narrowed eyes.

She hadn’t fought back against the smear campaign conducted against her online because Layla
had been smart about it this time.
Layla hadn’t gone at her directly, but rather indirectly. All the posts Layla shared were about how
much she had gone through to become the boss of Evanson Corporation.
As a daughter of the Evans family, didn’t it mean that someone was going against her that she had
to go through so much adversity?
But Layla’s posts never said that outright. Instead, she paid for people to suggest as much in the
comments.
Thus, Caroline couldn’t come out and refute these claims. Once she did, people might think she
was feeling guilty.
Besides, Caroline didn’t like bringing up old grudges. Plus, doing so wouldn’t bring her any
benefits. It wasn’t going to be so easy to get out of the current situation.
After much thought, Caroline decided not to clean up her image but rather go a more roundabout
route.
Since Layla said that Caroline had given Sonia financial backing, she would give credence to it.
When Andrea found out about this, she was astonished. She said, “Caroline, I think you should
chill out. If you back Sonia now, people will become even more displeased.”
Caroline kept looking at Sonia, who had her head lowered and hadn’t spoken all this time. “What
do you think, Sonia?”
Sonia looked up at Caroline. Hesitatingly, she said, “Ms. Evans, can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“From what Ms. Sorkin said, you insisted on signing me because you were sure I would become
popular. Can you tell me why you thought that?”
Caroline gave a small smile and told Sonia briefly about what she had seen that day when she had
gone to the set.
“I’m not a professional, so I can only see things from an audience member’s point of view.
Honestly, I’ve never seen an actress who can do such a beautiful fight scene so smoothly.
“Besides, I believe that hard work pays off, especially for someone like you.”

Sonia’s eyelashes fluttered. After a long while, she loosened her fists and said, “I don’t have any

Seeing this, Andrea felt like she couldn’t say much more against the plan. So she said, “Caroline,
let me know if you need any help on your end.”
Caroline replied, “No need. Just upload the vlog Sonia filmed before.”
“J–just like that?” Andrea wondered if she had heard Caroline wrongly.
Yet, Caroline only responded confidently. “Yes.”
After thinking it through, Andrea found no disadvantages to doing it, so she uploaded Sonia’s vlog
online.
At the beginning, there was more outrage and criticism. But as the video became more popular,
the comments became more reasonable.
“Wow, Sonia works so hard. Does she train like this every day?”
“She even trains when she’s injured. She’s truly driven!”
“Ahh, I really feel for her. But I’m so glad that others can see the work Sonia put in.
“Wow, Sonia takes it so seriously! Although this show only has a small budget, she still wakes up
at 5 am every day to memorize the script and train.
“Yes. Anyone who can be on screen must have put in a lot of hard work to do so.
“Why do I feel like the news of Caroline Evans being Sonia’s financial backer coming out is mean-
spirited? Sonia doesn’t have much influence, so she can’t choose her supporters.”
“That’s right. She’s just doing her job. It’s not like she should be sent to prison because her boss
got arrested. Isn’t it childish to tar her name with the same brush?”
Seeing the slow change in the comments being posted online about Sonia, Andrea couldn’t help
but see Caroline in a different light.
“Caroline, you’re amazing. I don’t think you should stay at Evans Group. Come join my company
and be my head of advertising.”

“Yes. Our customers are asking for refunds because they’re worried about our quality. Since you
know martial arts, you should be stronger than most.”
Caroline tossed one of the clothing items to Sonia. “Try and tear it with all your might.”
Sonia was an honest sort, so she really used all her strength to try and rip it, but it didn’t tear at all.
She sighed and said, “I can’t do it.”
“Try again.”
Sonia tried again a few times, but she still failed to make even a single tear. She wiped the sweat
from her forehead. “The material is too good.”
“That’s nylon, so it’s very strong. So there’s no need at all to worry about quality,” Caroline
explained proudly, shocking both Sonia and Andrea.
They weren’t surprised that Caroline was so knowledgeable, but rather that she could speak so
smoothly even when she didn’t have a script prepared.
They could tell at a glance that Caroline understood her product very well.
At the sight of Sonia and Andrea’s shock, Caroline turned to smile at Cheryl beside her. “Did you
film that?”
Cheryl nodded.
“And I wasn’t in the shot?”
Cheryl nodded again.
Caroline watched the video and cut it a bit before adding a caption. Then, she sent the finished
product to Andrea. “I’ll have to trouble you with this,” she said.
Andrea looked at the caption. It read, “Sonia looks so cool when she’s all serious, checking the
clothing’s quality. I’m falling in love!”

Chapter 457
When it came down to it, Sonia and Cheryl rarely got involved in advertising. That was why they couldn’t see the skill in this move.
Andrea sent the caption and video to her head of advertising. Seeing that they were confused, she said to them, “It’s understandable that you don’t get it. What Caroline did showcases Sonia as
someone who takes responsibility when it comes to her fans.”
Cheryl was still a bit perplexed. “But the partnership was announced more than two weeks ago. Isn’t it too late to be checking the clothes‘ quality?”
But Sonia had already seen the reasoning behind it. That was why she covered her mouth and
giggled when she heard Cheryl’s words.
She said to Cheryl, “That’s why Ms. Evans never stated when this video was taken.”
Cheryl was stunned for a moment before she came back to herself. “That way, netizens will think
this happened before product selection.”
“That’s right,” confirmed Caroline with a smile.
Cheryl was unsure. “But if people find out we’re lying, won’t the consequences be worse?”
Caroline smiled wider. “That’s why I didn’t give a set timeframe. Everything netizens say will only
be a wild guess. This is an elegant way of doing things.”
Caroline had learned this from Layla, too. It was the same as how Layla hadn’t attacked Caroline
directly and said that she was the one at fault.
Caroline hadn’t directly mentioned when this had happened, either.
For battles in business, one had to play with the little details. If one were too honest, they would
get eaten alive.
Once the video was released, the effects were immediately obvious. Netizens were not only moved
by Sonia getting involved in product selection personally, but also amused by how seriously Sonia
tried to rip the clothes.

“That’s right. I want to make an order just because of that!”
“Me too!”
“Why is everyone only focusing on Sonia? Am I the only one who noticed who’s talking in the
video?”
“Who is it? She sounds really nice. I wonder if she’s a beauty.”
“I think it sounds a bit like Caroline Evans.”
“That can’t be, right? How could Caroline manage to speak so smoothly about the product?”
“That’s right. Wasn’t she a designer at Thorne Corporation? I admit her designs are outstanding,
but how could she know anything about clothes?”
“That’s right. If she can sell it so well, I bet she’s an experienced salesperson.”
That was how the comments went. Most of the commenters didn’t believe that it could be Caroline
speaking in the video.
Plus, there weren’t any recordings of Caroline’s voice online, so no one was able to make a
comparison. In the end, this argument was only settled when Sonia’s manager made an
announcement.
The comment read, “The person in the video is indeed Ms. Caroline Evans. Don’t fight anymore,

With that confirmation, everyone was astounded.

Now, though, the names were all different throughout all departments.
This proved that those long–time employees weren’t lying.
Netizens also found out that Evans Group had been suffering losses before Caroline had taken over. Not long before, Dan Evans and his wife had been accused of embezzling by the company’s shareholders.
The most impressive thing was that someone had even found the names of two investors who had withdrawn overnight after Caroline became CEO. They had then joined Layla’s company, Evanson Corporation.
“Excuse me? Why does it seem more like Caroline is the victim here?”
“I agree. She took over a shitty situation and got backstabbed by family and outsiders at the same time. Poor her.”
“That’s right! Layla says she’s so pitiful and talks about how people bully her, yet she still worked hard to become Evanson Corporation’s CEO.
“But I don’t feel like anyone’s bullying her. If there was, how could she have gotten Evans Group’s shareholders and employees?”
“It’s horrifying to think about so many employees leaving on the same day.”
“I feel the same way. Aren’t they just trying to get Evans Group to collapse from the inside? Who’s bullying who?”
That was how things went.
The truth would always hold strong. Thus, after some digging, netizens found out that Layla’s
situation wasn’t as bad as her social media made it seem.
Since she had Eddy as her backer, she had managed to get the best ambassador and signed a 20-
million–dollar contract with Daphne.
Now, the truth was coming back to haunt Layla.
More comments came in.

If she issued a statement, she wouldn’t have anything to do with this incident anymore. And she didn’t even have to play the bad guy here, so she was delighted.
As soon as Daphne issued a statement, Layla, who was already in a dire situation, hit rock bottom.
At this moment, Evanson Corp was filled with the sound of ringing phones.
The phone calls were all from factories, consumers, and reporters. Some wanted to interview Layla, some wanted to return their products, and some asked for their money back.
The office was noisy, like a marketplace.
Layla stood behind her desk, her hair disheveled and her eyes red. She scratched her head frantically like a mad woman.
“There must be a way! You must have a way to turn this situation around!”
Standing in front of her were the elites from her company’s various departments, all of whom were feeling disgraced.
This was their first time failing so miserably. They had encountered losses before, but none as bad as this. Even with a huge advantage, they had still lost.
“Ms. Layla!” Someone stepped out, unable to take the pressure anymore.
“We’ve already lost! There’s nothing we can do!”

Everyone else lowered their heads in guilt at the man’s words.
He was right; Caroline had understood a simple truth like this more deeply than veterans like
them.
Sure enough, arrogance was a hindrance to humanity. They would have discovered the problem
long ago if they had been more modest.
Looking at Layla, who was still murmuring in disbelief, the man who spoke up took a step forward
and took out a resignation letter.
“Ms. Layla, although it is uncourteous of me to resign at this time, I feel that I can no longer make
any worthwhile contributions to this company. So it’s better for me to leave.”
After he submitted his resignation, everyone else came forward to give their resignation in

Layla didn’t seem to hear them at all. She kept looking at her table blankly, murmuring, “I won’t

Shortly after the senior executives came out of Layla’s office, the staff in the office hall watched
the senior executives pack up their things and leave.
Everyone looked at each other, then started to pack their things and leave as well.
When Layla finally stood up from her chair and staggered out of her office, an empty hall greeted

The once–overcrowded office space was now a ghost town.
It was so quiet that she could hear the sounds of ridicule in the air, mocking her for saying she
wanted to buy the whole building.
Layla laughed hysterically, sad tears welling up in her eyes. “Oh, Caroline! Why won’t you just die?”
She angrily picked up a book and threw it on the ground, venting her frustrations. However, no
matter how she vented, the phone rang endlessly, like a mourning song.

Meanwhile, Caroline and Cheryl were met with countless party streamers as soon as they entered the office downstairs.
“Ah! Congratulations on your triumphant return, Ms. Evans!”
“We love you, Ms. Evans!”
“You’re amazing, Ms. Evans!”
The employees were currying favor with Caroline one after another, singing her praises from the bottom of their hearts. They even stuffed a bouquet of roses into Caroline’s arms.
“Ms. Evans, these are for you!”
Caroline removed the streamers from her head.
“I appreciate all of your gratitude, but all of you played a big part in our success. I would like to thank all of you for your support and trust in me during this time.”
“Well said!” Gavin applauded and walked out of the crowd of employees.
“What a beautiful speech, Ms. Evans. However, we still won because we had a great leader at the helm. Right, everyone?”
“Right!”
“If you hadn’t persisted, we would have spent all our money hiring designers and spokespersons. We would have forgotten our original purpose, like Evanson Corporation.”
Gavin looked at Caroline earnestly and stretched out his hand. “I’m glad I didn’t withdraw my investment back then.”
“Me too.” George, who was following behind Gavin, scratched his head in embarrassment.
