Chapter 471
The horoscope–themed outfits were selling like hotcakes.
In addition, Caroline had had the insight to develop the second batch of clothing in advance, so the
company had already started discussing the announcement and distribution of the second batch
of clothes.
Everyone was busy except for Caroline. She discovered that her subordinates were not
incompetent. On the contrary, they had taken on a passive attitude toward their work because
they had thought Evans Group would go bankrupt sooner or later.
But things were different now. Everyone was motivated and energetic due to their success. They
were now doing the things she had had to handle alone previously with no trouble.
So Caroline was free at the moment. All she did was sign documents all day. Being a boss was
really easy. No wonder everyone wanted to be one.
However, Caroline didn’t want to relax. If she did, her mind would wander.
In desperation, she called Gwen. She didn’t know what her friend had been doing lately since she
had been really elusive. She hadn’t even shown up at their company’s celebration.
As soon as the call connected, Caroline heard the sound of typing on the keyboard. “Carol…”
Gwen’s voice was filled with joy.
It brightened up Caroline’s mood as well. “You’re in a good mood today.”
“That’s right!” Gwen made no secret of her mood.
“Did you make up with Sean?”
Gwen paused, then said leisurely,,“No.”
Caroline was stunned. “Then, did you win a lottery?”
“Haha, of course not.”
Gwen said, “I got a new boyfriend. I’ll let you meet him tonight.”
“A new boyfriend?” Caroline almost bit her tongue in shock.
“Yeah!” Gwen typed on her keyboard nonchalantly.

“Are you coming?”
Caroline was still shocked. “So you’ve been busy looking for a new boyfriend?”
“Yeah.” Gwen sounded free and easy.
“Didn’t I tell you? To forget a past relationship, you need time or someone new. Since you’re using time, I’ll find someone new.”
Caroline said, “But before, you didn’t need to find someone else to get over a relationship.”
Gwen either didn’t hear her words or didn’t care.
She asked again, “Are you coming? We’re meeting at a trendy Jasmorian restaurant. It’s difficult to book a spot. My boyfriend is the boss there.”
Caroline asked, “Is your boyfriend Jasmorian?” Was Gwen in a long–distance relationship now?
“No, he’s just a student studying in Jasmoria.”
Gwen said mysteriously, “But don’t tell anyone. He said it was a publicity stunt. If he claims to be
Jasmorian, others will think his restaurant is authentic.”
Caroline frowned slightly at her words. Wasn’t this an act of deception?
However, judging from Gwen’s tone, she really liked her new boyfriend. So Caroline didn’t mention
anything.
In the evening, Caroline and Gwen went to the Jasmorian restaurant together. Like Gwen had said,
it was pretty popular. There was a long line of people in front of the restaurant.
Caroline and Gwen entered through the back door. Coincidentally, when they went into the
restaurant, they met Sonia.
Sonia took off her sunglasses and mask, feeling a little excited. “Caroline?”
Caroline asked, “Hey! What are you doing here?”
Sonia explained with a smile, “I just finished work. I heard the food in this restaurant is excellent,
so I asked Helena to book a table for me. What a coincidence!”
Chapter 472
“Let’s go inside.” Caroline was worried they would be photographed, so she quickly pushed Sonia and Gwen into the private room.
After entering, Gwen was still dazed. After a long while, she pointed at Sonia and asked, “Are you Sonia Norman?”
After that, she tapped her head. “I really liked you in… what’s that show called again?”
“Odyssey“?”
“Yes, that’s right! ‘Odyssey“! The fighting scenes in that show were amazing!”
Gwen looked at Caroline excitedly. “Carol, you’ve also seen ‘Odyssey‘, right?”
After saying this, she seemed to realize something and laughed heartily. “Oh, how forgetful of me. You had predicted Sonia would become famous because of that show.”
Speaking of this, she felt a little guilty. She grabbed Caroline and whispered, “I’m really sorry, Carol. I’ve been so busy looking for a new partner that I forgot to congratulate you!”
Caroline said, “It’s okay. I’m just happy to see you back on your feet.”
While the two were talking, the sliding door was pushed open, and a tall man walked in. He was wearing a Jasmorian outfit, and he looked pretty handsome, but Caroline somehow always ended up looking at the prickly hairs below his nose.
“This is my boyfriend, Colin Waverly,” Gwen introduced.
Colin’s eyes fell on Caroline. “Is this your best friend?”
“Yes.”
“She’s pretty.”
Caroline frowned. This wasn’t the first time Gwen had introduced her to a new boyfriend. They
had brazenly checked her out before, but they would restrain themselves around Gwen.
However, Colin didn’t seem to know the meaning of restraint. He kept looking at Caroline boldly.
The next second, he walked past Caroline and Gwen and stretched his hand towards Sonia.

Sonia was used to meeting enthusiastic fans, so she politely shook Colin’s hand and then let go.
She thought Colin would let go of her hand, but unexpectedly, he took a step further and grabbed Sonia’s hand tightly.
“Can you give me an autograph, my muse? Just sign your name on your bra and hand it to me.”
Gwen’s expression turned dark when she heard Colin’s perverted request. She kicked his thigh and hissed, “What the hell are you doing?”
Colin grimaced in pain, but he could still come up with sweet nothings.
“Are you jealous, my dear? You and Sonia are different. You’re my girlfriend, and she’s my muse. I’ll be together with you, but I won’t ever be in a relationship with her.”
Caroline was speechless.
Gwen was dumbfounded as well. She turned to Caroline and said, “Let’s go, Carol.”
Caroline grabbed Sonia. She had to ask Gwen where she had found this nutjob after they left. However, when she opened the door, she saw Sean standing at the door with a sullen expression.
Sean always had a scholarly air that made him appear weak and bookish.
But now, his sullen expression even made Caroline’s heart jump. Then, her eyes met Kirk’s, who
was standing behind Sean.
Kirk had a neutral expression on his face. He leaned lazily against the door, like a spectator
watching a play.
Even when distracted, Caroline noticed Gwen holding Colin’s arm beside her and introduced
warmly, “What a coincidence, Dr. Yates! This is my boyfriend, Colin. And Colin, this is Sean Yates.
You must know him. He’s a genius doctor.”
She winked at Colin charmingly.
Colin was stunned by her behavior.
ow why, but after seeing him a few times, she finally figured it out.
Colin’s eyes looked very similar to Sean’s. His eyes were on the rounder side, and they had a warm tint. As soon as she realized this, she proposed getting together with Colin.
Therefore, she didn’t care how much of a scumbag Colin was. She just wanted to see those eyes, just like she was looking into Sean’s eyes right now.
Gwen bit her lip slightly, feeling bitter. But she still sounded relaxed when she asked, “Are you here for dinner, Dr. Yates?”
Suddenly, Sean grabbed Gwen, and she staggered into his arms. She struggled and yelled, “Let go
of me!”
But Sean still pulled Gwen toward the door with a long face. Soon, the sounds of Gwen’s struggle
faded into the distance.
Sonia was dumbfounded at the sight. She whispered in Caroline’s ear, “Caroline, w–will she be
okay?”
Caroline glanced at Colin, who was standing there blankly. “Why should we be worried when her
boyfriend isn’t?”
Caroline still trusted Sean. She didn’t believe he would do anything to harm Gwen. Colin, on the

He had such an awful personality! Caroline would definitely try to persuade Gwen to break up with him, even if it would ruin their friendship.
“Are you still eating dinner?” Kirk suddenly spoke, his voice magnetic.
Sonia immediately looked at Kirk, a blush staining her pretty cheeks. Having worked in the entertainment industry for years, she had seen many handsome men.
But this was the first time she had seen someone as good–looking as Kirk. Her heart, which had never skipped a beat, was beating wildly right now.
Caroline didn’t notice the change in Sonia’s behavior, but she looked at Kirk and stepped out of the private room. Kirk put his hands in his pockets and followed her.
Only then did Sonia notice the unusual connection between Caroline and Kirk. She suppressed the fluttering in her heart and hurriedly followed Caroline.
But she still couldn’t help sneaking a glance at Kirk when she passed by him. Just one glance was enough to astound her. She quickly looked away and asked Caroline, “Are you going home, Caroline?”
Caroline had already left the restaurant. Jack’s car was parked not far away. Thinking Kirk would definitely get in the car with her, she said sullenly, “I’m going for a walk.”
She could use this chance to make it clear to him that he didn’t have to go to her house anymore.
Unexpectedly, Sonia asked, “Why don’t I come with you?”
She put on her mask and said with bright eyes, “Since I joined the entertainment industry, I’ve been practicing martial arts at home every day. I don’t even have the time to go out, let alone take
a walk.”

Caroline looked at Sonia and found it difficult to refuse a request from a beautiful girl like her.” Okay, but is it okay for you to do this? If fans recognize you…”
“They won’t.” Sonia pointed to her mask.
“It’s dark at night. They won’t recognize me unless their eyes are sharp.”
Caroline relaxed and took Sonia for a silent walk along the street. Kirk followed behind them, remaining quiet as well.
Sonia discreetly asked Caroline, “Caroline, who is that man?”
Caroline said bluntly, “I don’t know him.”
Sonia chuckled at her words.
Caroline asked, “Why are you laughing?”
“He must be your husband. You two must be having trouble.”
Sonia said mysteriously, “Besides, I can see that you both love each other very much.”
Caroline’s heart skipped a beat. She said, “You’re so confident about that. Are you a psychic or something? Or have you been in a relationship?”
“No, but I’ve seen people in love.”
Sonia mused, “Look at him. Even though you both are fighting, he still follows you every step of the way.
“It shows that you’re more important than his anger at you. I’ve seen many people lose their girlfriends because they lost their temper over the tiniest things.” Kirk’s attitude touched Sonia.
Caroline had met someone like that before. That had been the case with Eddy. He would abandon
her at any time during meetings, banquets, or even the roads. It wasn’t because they were
fighting, but because he didn’t like her.
Sonia nudged Caroline’s arm. “Caroline. If it isn’t a big issue, you should just forgive him. In
relationships, there must be a compromise, right?”
Caroline looked at Sonia silently.

“And marrying her?” Sonia interjected, looking back at Kirk in shock.
But she quickly shook her head and said, “I don’t think he’s someone like that. Did you give him a chance to explain?”
Caroline threw up her hands. “Yes, and I did it more than once! But he just wouldn’t explain himself.”
After what she heard, Sonia couldn’t take Kirk’s side anymore.
Still, she said, “Maybe he has his reasons.”
Caroline grimaced. She didn’t care if he had his reasons.
She was going to kick Kirk out of her apartment tonight! She didn’t want to see his face every night right after work!
Before this issue was resolved, she would give him the silent treatment until the end!
As she walked, she noticed fewer lights and people around them.
Realizing that she had reached a remote place, Caroline was about to turn around and go back when three people showed up in front of them.
All three wore masks and hats. They were even more covered up than Sonia.
Caroline turned around and noticed they weren’t the only ones there.
They were surrounded from all directions. There were at least 20 to 30 people, and they were all
holding weapons. It was clear that they weren’t good people.
Caroline protected Sonia behind her.
Her actions made Sonia, who had only had herself to rely on since childhood, feel a warmth in her
chest.
However, before the warmth dissipate, she felt a chill on her back. When she turned around, she
met Kirk’s aggressive gaze.

“What are you up to?” Caroline could tell these men were up to no good. She secretly used Sonia’s body as cover to call the authorities.
“Nothing much.” The person who spoke was probably their leader. He was casually holding a
baton in his hand, tapping it on his palm.
“We’re just a little short of money, and we would like to borrow some from you.”
Just as Caroline was about to speak, Kirk walked to stand between her and the leader.
The leader was a head shorter than Kirk, so he had to raise his head to see him clearly. But as soon as his eyes met Kirk’s, he trembled in fear.
The man before him had eyes as sharp as daggers, and he had an air of danger. He could tell this man couldn’t be trifled with.
But he remembered the generous reward he would get. Besides, they only had one man on their
side.
At this thought, he became more courageous and tightened his grip on his baton.
“What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to pay?”
Kirk raised his hand and grabbed his neck. The leader was caught off guard, and his eyes widened.
He raised his baton, trying to hit Kirk, but he couldn’t muster any strength.
The situation escalated so suddenly that everyone rushed toward Kirk like a swarm of bees.
Seeing that they had begun fighting, Sonia braced Caroline behind her. With a clean sweep of her
leg, she kicked down three men rushing toward them.
The sight amazed Caroline. Sonia was so cool!
Kirk’s moves were even cleaner and sharper. He didn’t fight flamboyantly like Sonia. Instead, he
would deliver every blow with all his strength.
With each punch he threw, someone would fall to the ground, incapacitated.
Just like that, the two of them defeated dozens of men.

Before Caroline could smile in relief, she saw someone getting up behind Kirk with a knife he had gotten out of nowhere. She didn’t even have time to warn him when she saw the man stab Kirk in
the back as he walked toward her.
“Kirk!” Caroline yelled anxiously.
Behind him, the tip of the knife pierced Kirk’s back. The man only made a shallow cut before he lost his strength.
Kirk felt danger coming from behind him and was about to fight back. But seeing the fear in Caroline’s eyes, he changed his mind. He pressed his back against the tip of the knife and backed
away forcefully.
Shunk! The knife stabbed into his chest. A huge wave of pain surged from his back, spreading throughout his body.
Caroline, who was running toward Kirk, also heard the sound of a stab.
She stood there blankly, watching Kirk smile at her.
“Darling …” His mouth opened and closed as his body slowly fell to the ground.
Caroline didn’t care about anything else. She rushed over and tightly hugged Kirk, who was about
to fall.
With tears in her eyes, she sobbed, “Kirk …”
As her tears fell on his cheeks one by one, Kirk discreetly curled his lips into a small smirk.
The police soon arrived at the scene and took the dozens of thugs away. The doctor who followed
them took Kirk to the hospital.
Although the knife wound was deep, it hadn’t damaged any vital parts of Kirk’s body. The doctor
briefly treated the wound and gave instructions before leaving the ward.
Caroline finally breathed a sigh of relief when she learned Kirk was fine.
She glanced at Sonia, who hadn’t left yet. “You should go home, Sonia. There are many people
here. It would be bad if they recognized you.”
Sonia nodded, not wanting to cause more trouble for Caroline.
Noticing the worry on Caroline’s face, she couldn’t resist saying, “You don’t have to worry,

What a coincidence! Caroline’s husband’s surname was also Morrison.
“Thank you.” Caroline walked her to the door.
“Be careful on the way home. Hurry up and go. It would be bad if someone recognized you.”
“Okay.” Sonia glanced at Kirk one last time before looking away. This man was someone she could
only dream of.
Caroline didn’t notice it just now, but Sonia did. She knew martial arts, so she understood a martial
artist’s instinctive reaction when facing danger.
However, Kirk had taken a step back, putting himself in more danger. This wasn’t something a
typical martial artist would do. Therefore, he had done it on purpose.
He had probably done it to make Caroline worry.
Sonia curled her lips into a smile. That man would even risk his own life to get closer to Caroline.
Nothing could get this man away from her, not even God.
At this thought, Sonia’s steps relaxed a little as she walked.
Caroline looked at Kirk, who was lying on the hospital bed with a pale face. His eyes were closed.
He hadn’t woken up.
The doctor said he possibly hadn’t woken up because he was in too much pain.
Caroline took the chance to see Kirk’s appearance carefully. After looking at him, she noticed he
had really lost weight.
He used to have more flesh on his cheeks, but now his cheeks were slightly sunken, making him
look even more ruthless.
Feeling distressed, Caroline lowered her head and saw that Kirk’s fingers had become more
slender.
She wanted to touch his palm with her hand, but she suddenly pulled away as if she had been
shocked.
She nervously looked up at Kirk.

Seeing that he was still asleep, she boldly reached out again, carefully touching Kirk’s palm. His
familiar touch made her heart race, and she slowly touched his skin with her fingers.
People were greedy. After feeling a hint of warmth, she wanted more.
It wasn’t until Caroline’s entire palm covered Kirk’s hand that she finally circled his wrist with her thumb and middle finger. His wrist had become thinner as well.
As Caroline felt the bones on his wrist, she felt her heart sting. She wondered if he had lost weight anywhere else. She glanced at his body, which was covered by the blanket.
Unbeknownst to her, Kirk, who was lying on the bed, slightly opened his eyes and was looking at Caroline secretly.
Her distress for him was like a drug, lessening the pain in his back.
Time passed silently. It was a quiet and beautiful moment between them.
Then, Kirk heard the sound of high heels tapping on the ground. He frowned slightly.
The next second, Gwen opened the door and walked in, panting. She asked nervously, “Are you okay, Carol?”
Caroline quickly let go of Kirk.
Kirk rolled his eyes with his eyes still closed.

Chapter 477
“I’m fine. What are you doing here?”
Caroline’s question made Gwen’s expression shift.
After Sean had dragged her out of the restaurant, he had taken her to a secluded place before
letting her go.
Naturally, Gwen had taken the chance to attempt an escape, but unexpectedly, Sean had pinned
her against the tree.
He stared at her with a vicious look she had never seen before, like a hunter eyeing his prey.
Gwen’s body trembled from his gaze, but she still braced herself to look into Sean’s eyes. “What?
Are you going to force a kiss now?”
“You’re damn right I am!” After saying that, Sean pressed his mouth against hers.
At first, Gwen had resisted, but eventually, for some reason, she felt dizzy, her mind drifting like a
cloud. Gradually, she had lost strength in her limbs, and she had leaned against Sean.
She had felt as if she had caught a piece of driftwood in the ocean. She would survive if she held
on, but she would have to endure its putrid stench.
If she didn’t want to endure the smell, she had to let go of her lifeline. But that also meant she
would die.
As her mind had been spinning from deciding what to do, Sean had let her go. A faint smile had
stretched on his face as he traced her lips with his fingers.
He had a hint of pride in his eyes as he said, “Your body is more honest than you.”
His words had pissed Gwen off.
Just then, they had heard police sirens behind them. Gwen had taken the chance to escape from
Sean’s arms and returned to the restaurant to look for Caroline.
They had learned from other people that Caroline and Kirk had gone to the hospital. Then, they
had come here in a hurry.
“Is Kirk all right?” Sean asked.

“I can wake him up right away, but…” Sean glanced at Gwen.
“I’ll do it on one condition.”
Gwen’s heart was pounding at his words.
Caroline blurted out, “What?”
“Gwen has to break up with that fake foreign bastard.” After Sean finished speaking, he looked at
Gwen inquiringly.
Gwen’s face turned red in an instant. “You’re absolutely shameless.”
“Just tell me whether you’ll do it.”
Gwen bit her lip and glanced at Caroline. “Fine, I’ll do as you say. I’ll break up with him …”
After that, she mumbled, “With my good looks, I can quickly find a new partner anyway..

“What did you say?” Sean asked.
Gwen said, “Oh, nothing. Didn’t you say you could wake Kirk up? Come on, don’t waste any time.
Show us your miraculous skills as a genius doctor.”
“This method is … a family secret. I can’t let you see it.” Sean said, “You two should leave. I
guarantee that Kirk will wake up in five minutes.”
Gwen scoffed, feeling skeptical, but she still left the room with Caroline.
After closing the door, Caroline looked at Gwen and said, “Even if you don’t want to break up with
Colin, Sean wouldn’t just sit still. Kirk is his friend, after all.”
“I know.” Gwen waved her hand in frustration.

Caroline laughed heartily.
“What are you laughing at?” Gwen asked in confusion.
“I’m laughing at you. You knew Colin wasn’t a good person, but you still wasted your time on him.”
Gwen laughed as well. “I can’t help it. My past relationship is too unforgettable.”
“Since it’s so memorable, why don’t you give it another try?” Caroline suggested.
“Not everyone is like your father. There are loyal and faithful men in this world.”
“Give me an example, then.”
For a moment, Caroline couldn’t come up with an answer.
“See?” Gwen turned to look at the moon outside the window.
“Anyone can see how much Kirk loves you, but …”
Speaking of this, she glanced at Caroline and whispered, “I’m sorry, Carol. I didn’t mean to rub salt

Caroline shook her head. “It’s fine. In fact, I’ve been thinking about this problem recently. Why can
a man marry another woman if he loves his first partner so much?”
“Did you figure it out?”
Caroline shook her head.
Gwen smiled. Not caring about the cold wind brushing her face, she continued, “See?
Relationships are complicated. They’re so complicated that even scientists don’t dare study them.
“I might as well live a simple life. It’s actually not a bad thing. If you keep pursuing the next
partner, you’ll never be troubled by emotional matters.”
Caroline chuckled. She and Gwen had different approaches to a relationship.
Gwen wanted someone to live in the moment with, while Caroline wanted a companion for the
rest of her life.

“Don’t worry! I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled when I find another partner. At least I won’t get together with a scumbag again.”
In contrast to the warm atmosphere between the two friends outside the room, Kirk glared at Sean

Kirk’s expression remained unchanged as he questioned, “What did a simpleton like you come up

Sean, who had been outperformed in all aspects since childhood, almost couldn’t hold back his joy when he saw Kirk lose for the first time.
“I’m going to call them in,” Sean said before going out to call Caroline and Gwen.
Kirk knew Sean very well. Even if he didn’t do as Sean wanted him to, Sean still wouldn’t tell
Caroline what he had done.
Thinking that Sean was in a worse situation than him, Kirk didn’t expose Sean’s lie. He pretended
to stir awake when Caroline and Gwen walked into the room.
When Caroline saw Kirk awake, her worries were put to rest. She returned to her usual attitude,
putting distance between them again.
She stood beside Kirk’s bed and asked, “Are you hungry? Do you want something?”
Kirk shook his head, his eyes following Caroline. His gaze was so passionate that even a blind
person could feel its intensity.
Caroline told herself she should be nice to him since he was a patient right now. So she resisted
the urge to push his face aside.
“Since Kirk is awake, we’ll be taking our leave.” Sean silently gestured his gratitude to Kirk and
dragged Gwen out of the ward.
Inevitably, Gwen’s struggles echoed in the hospital again, but not in an intense way.
Gwen wasn’t actually that determined in her approach, was she? Caroline curled her lips into a
small smile at the thought.
As their voices faded away, the room became quiet again. Only then did she realize they were the
only ones left in the room.
Caroline sat down, keeping her head lowered. After a long while, she couldn’t take the silence
anymore and raised her head. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m doing okay.”
“Then… I’ll get someone to take care of you.”

Kirk frowned slightly in disgust and said, “No, I don’t like other people touching me.”
“How are you going to eat, get out of bed, or clean yourself?”
Kirk looked at Caroline expectantly.
Caroline stood up and refused, “I … I don’t have time to take care of you. I still have to go to work.”
Although nothing was going on at work, she didn’t want to stay behind and take care of Kirk.
It wasn’t because she disliked him, but constantly spending time together would drive her crazy.
She didn’t know what attitude she should adopt to deal with Kirk. Although she didn’t know what it was like when other couples argued, it was wrong for them to act like this.
“Then, I’ll just rot and stink in the hospital bed,” Kirk said nonchalantly.
Caroline was utterly dumbstruck.
In the end, she decided to stay behind and take care of Kirk. It definitely wasn’t because she was
worried about him, but because he was still her benefactor no matter what.
Caroline believed that she had to be grateful. Yes, that was it–she was just repaying him for helping her.
Thinking about this, she no longer felt conflicted when facing Kirk.
She treated him as she would a benefactor, cooking the most sumptuous meals for him and
accompanying him for a walk downstairs after food.
This beautiful moment was like a dream. The two also had a tacit understanding not to mention
anything aside from his injuries. It seemed they didn’t want to wake up from their dream.
It wasn’t until Caroline had to clean Kirk that the beautiful moments came to an abrupt end. She
stood in front of the bathroom mirror, biting her lip hesitantly.
Logically speaking, she had seen every single inch of his body, so she didn’t have to be bashful.
