Chapter 16
Lia pulled herself together and cracked a few jokes. Only after seeing Sophla brighten up did she suggest that it was time to leave.
As she stepped out of the house, she saw Ralph leaning against the wall near the door. He stood there with a cold and gloomy expression. His thin lips were pursed tightly, and his brows were furrowed,
He had heard everything that was said inside the house.
Lia had gone out of her way to cheer Sophia up. Hadn’t she done that because she couldn’t let go of
him?
She must be regretting the divorce and wanted to get back together with him! After liking him for three years, how could she just suddenly stop?
Thinking about this, Ralph had a relieved look on his face.
As he watched her walk out with a gentle and demure smile, he felt a strange mix of happiness and guilt.
Ralph hadn’t treated her well in the past three years, but he would compensate her well in the future.
She had left without taking anything with her, which meant that she truly loved him. She didn’t want him to misunderstand and think that she had only married him for his wealth!
Realizing this, Ralph felt a surge of confidence.
“Lia, if you’re regretting the divorce, it’s not too late to come back,” he said.
Without the status of Mrs. Walters, she must be suffering.
Ralph’s gaze was intense, and his voice was cold. However, he was inwardly quite elated. By saying this, he was giving her a way back to him.
Upon hearing his words, Lia glanced at Ralph. She felt disgusted by his words and thought that it was
ridiculous.
Then, she chuckled and walked down the stairs. She didn’t even want to waste a single word on him.
Why would she regret the divorce? How was that possible? Did he expect her to act as if nothing had happened? Did he think that she would keep playing along and put up with his shameful behavior?
Just thinking about it made her feel suffocated.
Mesface
Seeing her leave without a word, Ralph’s expression darkened momentarily. The look on his face subtly stiffened. He felt a great emptiness inside as if something was missing. A feeling of
restlessness and fear gnawed at him.
He loosened his collar and chased after her, but she was already gone.
Quinnie stepped forward to intercept him.

She said in exasperation, “Lia has no manners. She’s completely out of line. She wanted to marry into our family when we weren’t doing well, so we had no choice but to accept her. We’ve taken care of her for three years, yet she repays our kindness with betrayal.”
“Lately, her actions have brought shame to our family. We need to teach her a lesson. Let’s make sure she’s blacklisted in all our circles. When she’s struggling to find work and comes to us begging for help, then she’ll learn her lesson and understand who really has the power here!”
Ralph frowned. His expression became cold. His eyes were deep and dark. He felt a weight in his chest and quietly adjusted his sleeve.
“Mom, leave all the other matters to me. You just need to take care of the guests,” he spoke coolly, and then walked away.
As Ralph was leaving, he made a call to Gerald. “Have you found out where Lia is staying?”
He had been trying to find out her new address but still hadn’t found anything.
She had cut off all contact with him and disappeared completely. Was she deliberately avoiding him?
Gerald hesitated for a moment. Then, he cautiously replied, “No, after Mrs…. Ms. Adams left, there’s
been no news of her.
“I
Ralph gritted his teeth, feeling a squeezing sensation in his chest as if someone had gripped his heart tightly. He felt very uncomfortable.
He couldn’t believe that Lia had actually escaped from his grasp.
Three months later, a grand charity dinner was held in Fallburgh City. The organizer of this huge event was Flying Hawk Entertainment, the leading entertainment company.
The event was attended by many elite members of the upper echelons of society. They were all either
rich or of high status, making for an extremely grand affair.
Flying Hawk Entertainment’s status in the industry was unparalleled and beyond reach.
“This new director seems to have some connections with Eleanor!”
Amber listened to the conversations around her and felt a spark of hope. She looked at Ralph excitedly.
She would be better off pursuing an acting career rather than toiling tirelessly in the theater troupe. She had wanted to join the entertainment industry for some time now, but she just hadn’t found the right time to discuss it with Ralph:
Ralph was calm and dignified as he talked to the guests, keeping a polite distance from them with an air of aloofness.
As soon as the guests walked away, Amber couldn’t wait any longer and said, “Ralph, I was thinking of quitting the troupe. Could you maybe talk to this new director for me? I…”
Ralph frowned slightly and sipped his drink nonchalantly. His voice was as cool as ever. “Alright, I got it.”
It was just a small favor of putting in a word for Amber. It wouldn’t take much effort.
Amber looked up at Ralph and smiled. She knew that he wouldn’t refuse any of her requests.
Suddenly, the banquet hall buzzed with activity.
Someone spoke up, “Look, Mr. Adams of the Adams Corporation is here too. But, why does his girlfriend look so familiar?”
Jacob exuded a noble and distant air. His every move was filled with poise and power that couldn’t be ignored.
The woman holding onto his arm was also attracting a lot of attention.
Lia was strikingly beautiful. She wore a one–of–a–kind, custom–made black dress that had been flown in from abroad. It made her stand out and helped her inherent beauty and elegance shine through. She looked sophisticated and not at all gaudy.
Ralph’s face darkened the moment he saw her. His eyes narrowed slightly.
Lia had been missing for three months. But she was here now, appearing before him once again.
She smiled brightly as she linked her arm with Jacob’s. Their intimate posture indicated that their
relationship wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
Lia knew that Ralph would be present at the event. In this circle, they would inevitably meet sooner or
later.
As Mrs. Walters, she had mostly just worked in his company and had rarely appeared with him in such settings.
Lia glanced at Amber, who was standing beside Ralph. Her eyes showed no emotion.
The disappointment she once felt was no longer as biting. She had always been the wife, and now ex- wife, that Ralph couldn’t proudly show off to others.
Now that she saw Ralph and Amber together, it seemed like the scoundrel and the villainess were indeed a perfect match!
