Chapter 15
For the past three years, Lia had never uttered a word of complaint or spoke up against Quinnie. As such, the bullying has never reached Ralph’s ears. But now that he knew, he dared not imagine what he had missed over the years.
Lia smirked and looked at Quinnie nonchalantly.
“Neither the clothes nor the bag I have on me were bought by your son. He has never spent a single cent on me. Why should I be grateful toward the Walters Family?”
She tilted her head and gave Ralph a look of indifference.
Then, she smirked and asked, “Mr. Walters, could I trouble you to inform your mother if I had ever spent your money?”
Lia was remarkably calm when she spoke. Without waiting for Ralph’s response, she continued with the most crucial detail.
“Also, I have divorced Ralph. You need not kick me out, because I’m leaving on my own.”
Lia’s words hit everyone like a bolt out of the blue. The crowd broke into quiet discussions.
Quinnie stood frozen to her spot. She hadn’t expected Lia to initiate a divorce. Thus, she was struck stunned and unable to comprehend that information.
After Lia finished speaking, she continued to make her way upstairs.
There were two reasons for her visit: to wish Sophia a happy birthday and to announce her divorce.
Quinnie looked toward her son and asked, “Was she telling the truth? Have you both divorced?”
Ralph’s heart clenched intensely. He fell silent and looked at Lia’s slender back with a complicated myriad of emotions. He didn’t know how he should feel.
During their three years of marriage, he rarely spent time in their home. Later, when he had gone back after their divorce, he realized that he had never understood his wife.
The card that he would transfer money into every month was placed in the drawer. Not a single cent of the money he gave her was used.
The unfamiliar emotion lingering in his heart made him feel frustrated.
Ralph’s expression darkened when he noticed Quinnie holding onto Hugo. “Why is he here?”
Quinnie paused and said, “This is your son, and my grandson. Of course, he can’t be left to grow up outside.”
Amber was smart enough to take the initiative to send her child over.
With a dark gaze, Ralph headed upstairs.
Sophia’s private nurse was not inside the room at this moment. So, Lia and Sophia had a chance to speak privately.
Ralph stopped outside the door and listened as Lia spoke gently to Sophia..
“Happy birthday, Grandma. I… I have to go overseas for work. So, I won’t be able to come visit you as often. You must take care of yourself.”
Lia endured the bitterness in her heart. She was worried that since Sophia might not be able to comprehend their divorce, Lia did not let her know of it.
If not for Sophia’s protection, Lia wouldn’t have been able to survive in the Walters family.
Sophia became anxious the second she heard that Lia was going overseas.
“You’re going overseas? How long will you be gone? You’re leaving just as Ralph has returned. Has he been mistreating you?”
Lia paused and softened her tone before saying gently, “No, Grandma. We’re doing good. This is just for work. I’ll come back and visit you the moment I’m free.”
“Oh! Here is your birthday present. Happy birthday, Grandma!”
Lia took her present out.
Upon seeing Sophia’s beaming face, she let out a sigh of relief.
Sophia smiled as she accepted the present. Despite her old age, her eyesight had not deteriorated too much. She could see that it was a priceless gift, and it showed that Lia genuinely cared about and
cherished her.
“Lili, I know that you like Ralph. So, spend your days happily together with him. When you have your own child, I’ll help you take care of them!”
Lia’s smile froze. But, she continued to nod with a smile as if nothing were out of the ordinary.
She did not think that she and Ralph would have the chance to be together anymore. It was the end of their marriage.
As for the children… Ralph already had his own child, and Lia did not think that he would want to have a child with her.
