Chapter 4 I Promise Not to Leave

• As Otto looked between Keira and Victor, he wondered if Keira had a change of heart since she had just been helping Victor treat his wounds.
• Feeling guilty under Otto’s scrutinizing gaze, Keira lowered her head like a child who had made a mistake. She understood what Otto was thinking about. Considering her actions in her previous life, she had to admit that his speculation was reasonable.
• Victor looked at Keira, who was lowering her head in embarrassment. She seemed exceptionally sweet and charming with her flushed cheeks. “Don’t talk nonsense. Just do what you’re supposed to do,” Victor warned.
• Otto met Victor’s intense gaze and pursed his lips, muttering, “How protective of you.”
• As Victor’s demeanor grew frostier, Otto quickly stopped joking. He said professionally, “The bullet must be removed quickly, and you must take antibiotics. Otherwise, this injury won’t fully recover.”
• “Can it heal completely if it’s treated now?” Keira asked anxiously.
• When did this woman become so concerned about Torry? Otto tilted his head, raised his brows, and chuckled softly. “Ms. Sunter, do you want Torry to recover?”
• Victor’s breath was caught in his throat. His gaze fell on Keira before he quickly looked away. He feigned indifference, but his uneasiness was apparent. He suddenly feared Keira’s answer wasn’t what he wanted to hear. Even if her current behavior was a farce, he didn’t want to see his hopes shattered so quickly.
• Keira looked at Victor and felt a dull pain when she saw him looking away. “Of course, I hope he gets better,” Keira blurted out, “he’s my husband. Why would I want him to be unwell?!”
• Her husband? I’m her husband! Kay called me her husband! Even though Victor remained calm, he dropped all pretense. He looked up, unable to hide how excited he felt. Upon looking at Victor’s abrupt change in expression, Keira approached him concernedly. “What’s wrong? Does it hurt a lot?”
• Victor nodded unexpectedly. “Yes.” Otto stood at the side, baffled. As the youngest leader in Byrom Corporation’s history, Victor used ruthless means to quell the power struggle within the corporation, offending many people in the process. He was also often attacked.
• Victor had once met with a challenging situation while abroad. Three bullets were removed from his body, and dozens of wounds were treated without anesthesia, but Victor didn’t even flinch. However, he was claiming to be in pain after being shot once before the surgery even began. Who is he kidding?
• “Dr. Pinazzi, can you please start the surgery quickly?” Keira looked at Victor, whose brows were furrowed, seeming very uncomfortable. She turned to Otto anxiously as she pleaded with him.
• Rolling his eyes, Otto shrugged. “Anytime is fine. There’s a medical treatment room in the villa anyway.”
• Keira immediately called the butler and asked for a wheelchair.
• Otto was dumbstruck. Why is Victor being so dramatic? Besides, his arm is hurt, not his leg. Why does he need a wheelchair?
• Victor looked at the restless woman who pushed the wheelchair over and even pulled a blanket from the wardrobe to drape it around him. Only then did she carefully help him, asking, “Are you dizzy or uncomfortable? You can lean on me if you’re feeling unwell!”
• “Mm.” Victor nodded weakly.
• Keira held on to him even more cautiously. She tried her best to steady herself and support him as she helped him onto the wheelchair. Then, she wheeled him to the medical treatment room’s entrance as quickly as possible.
• Otto thought to himself. Why do I suddenly feel like a third wheel?
• “Please take care of him, Dr. Pinazzi,” Keira said sincerely.
• Otto nodded slightly in response.
• Knowing that surgery required silence, Keira turned to leave. However, Victor grabbed her by the wrist. “I’ll wait for you outside, okay? I’ll only be a nuisance during the surgery if I stay,” Keira patiently coaxed Victor, but he didn’t let go. He had a determined expression as if he would never let her go.
• He reminded her of a dog being abandoned by its owner. Keira was startled by her thoughts and immediately shook her head. She couldn’t bear the thought of teasing Victor now.
• However, she understood Victor’s uncertainty. She lowered her head and gave him a peck on the cheek. “I promise not to leave. I’ll wait for you outside! Do the right thing and come back to me after surgery.” She smiled brightly, deliberately speaking in a relaxed tone to reassure Victor.
• Victor remained stunned in place even after Keira had walked out the door. The soft and chilly touch of the woman’s lips still lingered on his cheek.
• Otto stared in confusion for a long time before turning to look at Victor, who was lost in thought. Otto suggested, “Why don’t we invite a priest to come over and look at Keira? I think this woman might be possessed.”
• Victor glared at Otto sharply in response and said emphatically, “Get lost.”
• As the surgery began, Keira felt anxious and restless for the first time as she waited outside the operating room. Although she knew Otto was medically skilled and that Victor had always been in good health, her heart still tightened when she saw the door to the medical treatment room close.
• She paced back and forth outside the ward while the butler, Mr. Cruz, looked at her suspiciously. The abrupt transformation of the woman before him was indeed peculiar.
• Mr. Cruz feared that her sudden change of heart was just an illusion. He worried that she was deceiving Victor before delivering a fatal blow. Although Mr. Cruz thought of this, he held back since Victor was still in surgery. If Keira discovered that the other man was here and wanted to leave with him, Victor would go crazy when he came out.
• “Victor, you despicable person! Release Kay!” A man suddenly roared outside. “Victor, Keira is my woman! She’ll never belong to you! What have you done to Kay, you devil?”
• Mr. Cruz didn’t expect Joseph to be so crazed. Since he wasn’t allowed in, Joseph shouted and yelled in the courtyard. Mr. Cruz panicked and quickly thought about having someone kick Joseph out. Still, he hesitated because Keira and Victor previously had a significant argument. After all, a bodyguard had harmed Joseph in the past. Will there be another incident as a result of this?
• Keira’s expression changed drastically upon hearing the familiar voice. She instinctively glanced towards the medical treatment room and only relaxed when she saw that Victor hadn’t come out. When she previously listened to what Joseph said in her past life, she believed it displayed his deep love and loyalty. However, she only felt foolish for having such thoughts now.
• Everyone knew how terrifying Victor was when he lost control of his emotions. If Joseph truly loved me, why would he say such things and attempt to provoke Victor at a time like this? It was evident that Joseph and Keziah wanted to make her suffer to completely manipulate her.
• Victor’s eyes were ablaze with fury inside the medical treatment room. He wanted to stand up and go out with a gun, but Otto grabbed his shoulder. “Why are you in such a hurry? Isn’t Keira outside?” Otto wielded the surgical knife skillfully and cut off a piece of flesh precisely. He added, “Aren’t you curious about her sudden change in temperament? Let’s observe how she handles it.”
