Chapter 293 She Comes in Rage
Maia took the glass of wine and said, “I take your compliment as a sign that my company did splendidly, Mr. Victor. but I’m far from being done.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Victor flashed her a dubious smile.
“It’s true.” Maia nodded, took a step forward, and poured everything from her glass into his. I’m not exactly a good drinker and I can’t afford to be drunk. After all, I have a show to catch. later. I need to look for Hope now. Please excuse me, Mr. Victor!”
Maia emphasized the word “show” on purpose. Victor was not going to know what hit him! Then, she smiled and nodded at him politely so he could not find fault with her!
It helped that she was unbelievably alluring and that every move she made demonstrated pure elegance. This was not something he could find in every pretty lady! That was why he stared at her with a perverted longing!

Victor looked at the contents in his glass. What an exquisite lady, he thought. It was a good thing she did not die in the car crash. That would not have been fun. She had to stay alive at least until after he had sated his lust with her body.
He grinned, raised his head, and drank all of the wine in his glass.
Maia walked to the side of the venue and took out her phone when she was sure no one was
around her. There was a text from Buck.
“I can control it remotely now, Ms. Maia. It was easier than I thought. This was such a big event I thought there would be multiple encryptions in the system software that protect it from viruses and tampering. I thought it’d take me two to three hours at least, but it only took me twenty minutes.”
Maia frowned when she read the text. Was it really that easy to tamper with the system? Was that Cedric’s doing?
She tried to look for him again, but she just could not find him. There was only half an hour left until the award–giving ceremony.
Maia tucked her phone back into her purse and headed toward the buffet section to look for Hope. There were not many people there, but everyone there cast their gaze to the right…
A group of female celebrities, dressed in dazzling gowns, surrounded Hope and trapped her among them. Maia clenched her fists when she saw it.
Detached and elegant, Maia possessed both indisputable beauty and absolute authority. These combined qualities were enough to intimidate everyone to avert their gaze from the group.

One of the female celebrities in the group ridiculed Hope. “Do you think you would’ve done so well in this industry if it wasn’t for your sister, Hope? You were less popular than me back then.”
“You’ve been flying high for the past few years thanks to Maia! You got a role in the big–time period detective drama that was adapted from a famous work. Did she secure that for you too?”
A lot of female celebrities bare their teeth at each other. Hope’s career skyrocketed this year. It was only normal she would attract some enemies with that kind of success.
It was especially true when this group of female celebrities used to be under the same company as Hope in the past. None of them could outperform Hope. So, they left and signed a contract with another company.
Regrettably, they still could not beat her. On top of that, various marketing accounts had constantly compared them unfavorably with her. Naturally, they were infuriated.
Scarlett was one of the female celebrities in the group. Although her profile looked slightly better than Hope’s, but the people in the know were perfectly aware of the reason behind it. They just never said it out loud.
Hope ignored them. She took pieces of cake and put them on her plate. “This is tasty. I have to let Maia taste it.” She minded her own business. She had no intention of entertaining the
celebrities around her.
Just as she was about to leave with her food, that group of female celebrities stood in her way. Hope tried to walk through them. “Excuse me.” She didn’t manage to walk far before one of them grabbed her hand. It was none other than Scarlett.

“Why are you in such a hurry to leave, Hope? Is it because you feel guilty? I was also nominated for Best Actress this time around. You might be popular, but that guarantees
nothing.”
Scarlett kept mocking her. “Didn’t you always go home empty–handed in the past? Is that going to happen again? I can perfectly understand if you don’t need any award from The Horizon Awards. You’re Hope, after all.”
Hope tried to shake her hand free, but Scarlett had such a strong grip. She could not free herself because Scarlett was physically stronger than her.
“Let me go, Scarlett!”
However, Scarlett had no intention of letting her walk free. She said mockingly, “What a nice gown. Is it Blossom? If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you’re about to put on a performance and mimic a peacock displaying its tail feathers on stage!

The other onlookers started muttering, “Here she comes. She’s pissed off!” Scarlett and her gang heard the clicking of a pair of high heels and a cold voice before they knew who was upon
them.
“Let her go!”
Scarlett sensed a cold, imposing hostility. She released her grip involuntarily the moment she saw Maia. ““M–Ms. Maia.” Maia pulled Hope behind her. Then, she looked at Scarlett and sneered, “Scarlett, I presume?”
“In the flesh.” Scarlett straightened herself. She acted as if she was particularly tough. “Is there anything you want to say to me, Ms. Maia?”
“Just a few words,” Maia chuckled. “I heard that you’re nominated as the Best Actress. Congratulations.”
Scarlett brushed her long hair triumphantly and smiled at Maia, “Thank you, Ms. Maia. The Best Actress Award is mine to take.”
“I could tell you’re exceptionally confident from the way you dress. However, the peacock is the only bird who can put on a display with her beautiful tail feathers. A turkey, on the other hand, will always be a turkey. It could only hope to flap its wings and fly.
“It can never put on a nice display and will always pale in comparison to the peacock. It’s good to be confident, but overconfidence is a different matter altogether. You should know your own shortcomings. Don’t you agree?”
Maia sounded exceptionally calm, but she uttered each word with such venom that it upset Scarlett greatly.
