Chapter 12
Lia felt a myriad of emotions.
She couldn’t help but realize that he actually had feelings. However, that concern was only directed toward Amber’s child.
Ralph’s expression hardened, and he had a gloomy look on his face.
When they arrived at the courthouse, they did not have to wait in line. There wasn’t a queue in front of them, and only a few people came in after them.
Lia signed the papers decisively. Then, she watched as Ralph hesitated while holding the pen.
Suddenly, the two people behind them stepped up. One of them pressed Ralph’s shoulder to prevent him from moving. The other held onto Ralph’s hand and forced his signature.
It was signed so forcefully that the paper almost tore.
Ralph stood up and flung the pen away. Veins popped on his forehead as he clenched his teeth. “Lia…”
He could not believe that she would do such a thing.
Lia passed the signed documents to the clerk calmly. She then smiled gently and said, “That should
be all.”
The clerk did not comment on the scene before him. He filed it quickly and handed over the divorce
certificate.
As she took it from him, Lia thanked the clerk and stood up. She looked toward Ralph with a cold
stern gaze.
While the corner of her lips tugged up in mockery, she said in a chilly tone, “You’re free now, Mr. Walters.”
She flung a copy of the divorce certificate in his face and turned to leave.
Ralph was stunned, but he strode quickly to catch up to her.
“Where’s Hugo?” he growled.
Lia smiled with an air of nonchalance. “What does your missing son have anything to do with me? You should call the police!”
Ralph’s expression froze.
Right at that moment, his phone rang.
It was Amber.
“Ralph, I found Hugo! He was out with the nanny, and they just returned.”
Ralph frowned and lowered his gaze. This was too much of a coincidence!
Chapter 12
Pondering about it, he didn’t think that Lla could have bribed the nanny he had chosen. So, it could only be that she had tricked him.
Then, Ralph suddenly thought of Amber.
He was confused, and couldn’t understand why Amber would be communicating with Lia.
Before he could think much of it, he watched as Lia got into the car with those strange men. Moments later, she left and disappeared from his sight.
Ralph felt as if he was missing a piece of his heart at that moment. A complicated feeling plagued him. It felt so overwhelming that he thought that his heart would burst.
In the car, Lia looked at the text she had sent to Amber and smiled coldly to herself.
The text read: “He’s with me. I wonder… If your son were to be lost, would he care?”
In the end, Amber gave her the perfect answer and helped her out. However, this would not be the end
yet.
Lia felt happier the moment she got home.
When she heard the movements inside, she ran in. Eleanor was home, and she was instructing the maids to prepare some food.
Lia ran up and hugged her from behind. “Mom! You’re the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world! I missed you so much!”
Despite being in her 40s, Eleanor took very good care of herself. As such, she remained extremely popular in the entertainment industry. She could even pass off as Lia’s sister.
Eleanor had planned to give Lia a stern lecture, but her heart melted upon hearing Lia’s voice.
“Don’t be cheeky. You should wash your hands after coming back from outside. Be careful not to dirty my clothes.”
While she sounded exasperated, her expression was full of love.
Lia whined and clung onto Eleanor like a koala.
The sound of Jacob’s laughter could be heard from behind. “Mom, I think she’s doing it on purpose. You must teach her a lesson!”
Lia turned around and saw Jacob standing there with a cool and collected appearance. He raised his brow at her, and his eyes were full of laughter.
Lia then let go
of Eleanor and ran to hug Jacob. “Jake, why did you go on such a long business trip?”
