Chapter 20
In the entire Fallburgh City, no one dared to speak to Ralph like that, let alone hit him. Lia’s reaction was unexpected, and he was shocked.
After the pain subsided, Ralph straightened up slowly. His face was still pale, and his deep eyes were cold and brimming with dark emotions.
During the standoff, Jacob had walked over to where Lia was standing. He smiled softly and squeezed her shoulder affectionately. He asked, “What are you guys talking about?”
Lia raised her eyebrows and said indifferently, “Mr. Walters had some doubts about my qualifications as a director, so I was just advising him to worry less.”
“Don’t be too impolite to him,” Jacob said dotingly. He gave Ralph a meaningful look and continued, ” Mr. Walters, Lia is an outstanding graduate from an Ivy League University. She had also worked in a renowned company after her graduation. She’s exceptionally capable, and her role as the director of Flying Hawk Entertainment is well–deserved.”
For a moment, the two men looked at each other, as if they were silently competing with each other. A renowned company? Which company was that?
Ralph knew exactly which company it was. But upon hearing all that, he frowned slightly. An Ivy League University graduate? Why hadn’t he ever heard about it before?
When Ralph first received Lia’s information, he didn’t even glance at it. To put it bluntly, he didn’t want to waste his time getting to know her. But her work performance was indeed excellent and impeccable.
He had always treated her as a dispensable secretary and never considered her for a more important position. She had shielded him from countless attacks at the company, but he had never actually cared.
After Jacob gave his regards to Ralph, he took Lia away. Ralph didn’t stop them. His eyes gradually darkened, and his eyebrows furrowed, revealing a complex and gloomy expression.
Amber saw all of this clearly. Her face turned pale, and her expression was sour. Her eyes were filled with jealousy and resentment.
They were already divorced, but Lia was still flirting with Ralph. How shameless! She absolutely wouldn’t let them get back together!
Lia followed Jacob to the second floor to mingle with the others. She leaned lightly against the railing with a glass of red wine in her hand. Her eyes sparkled, and she seemed relaxed and at ease while talking and laughing. For her, being the director of Flying Hawk Entertainment was just the
beginning.
When Ralph was surrounded by people, Amber finally found a chance to leave his sight. She quickly went to the second floor.
Once the people around Lia left, she immediately approached her. She maintained a pitiful demeanor and said, “Lia, you’re so capable. Can I ask you for a favor?”
Lia remained cool and nonchalant. She glanced at Amber with a touch of impatience before looking away. What a pain!
“Can you resign? Don’t you see? Men don’t like strong women. If you keep this up, Jacob will eventually get tired of you too!”
Lia glanced at Amber coolly and smirked. “Do you think all men are as blind as Ralph? Do you think they’ll all fall for someone as worthless as you?”
Amber’s expression froze. She dropped her pitiful and submissive facade. She stared at Lia angrily and said, “Lia, it was you who meddled in my relationship with Ralph and came between us. I’m just taking back what belongs to me. You’re the real mistress here! What right do you have to blame me?”
Lia took a sip of the wine and savored it before swallowing. The taste of alcohol lingered in her mouth.
As Amber spoke, Lia’s bright eyes turned cold. She slowly took a step closer to Amber, her face impassive. “You intentionally killed my child.”
Amber’s eyes flashed, and a smug smile appeared on her face. “Yes, Ralph said that he wouldn’t let any other woman bear his children. He only wants the ones I give birth to, so I was just doing him a
small favor.”
She took a step back with a smirk on her face and stood near the stairs. Her eyes gleamed with madness. “Lia, as soon as you two got married, Ralph got back together with me. You were kept in the dark like a fool. Why did you have to compete with me? How dare you stand in my way with a child
who deserved to be killed?”
The forgotten past was deliberately brought up.
