Chapter 23
Ralph returned to the lounge and saw Amber sitting weakly on the couch.
There was gauze wrapped around her head. She looked pitiful and frail.
Ralph walked over to her. When he noticed her swollen right cheek, his eyes darkened. The air around him seemed to become colder.
“Does it hurt?”
Amber sniffed, pretending to be strong.
Without voicing out her pain, she replied, “No, it doesn’t hurt. Ralph, don’t blame Ms. Adams. She was just acting impulsively out of anger.”
Ralph narrowed his eyes. He felt somewhat impatient and annoyed.
He thought about how Lia hadn’t even tried to defend herself and recalled what the lady had said about what had actually transpired.
His impression of Amber became unfavorable.
“Did she really push you?”
Amber’s face turned pale. Tears welled up in her eyes as she asked, “Ralph, don’t you believe me?”
Ralph withdrew his gaze. He suppressed his emotions and frowned.
“Amber, when I asked you to return from abroad, I promised Joan that I would take care of you. Once Hugo’s registration is sorted out, you can leave with him.”
Amber’s expression froze, and her heart sank.
She looked up at him in disbelief. She never expected Ralph to actually ask her to leave.
The day after the banquet, Lia’s work officially started. She had taken the time to look into the background and operations of Flying Hawk Entertainment in advance.
The involvement of various interests was complicated. The equity structure was also the result of balancing the interests of multiple parties.
Eleanor was the largest shareholder behind the scenes. However, nobody knew her identity.
Lia arrived at the company early in the morning.
She pushed open the door to the CEO’s office and saw the person inside talking on the phone.
Sean Rock raised his eyebrows and gestured to Lia to wait.
Lia smiled and nodded. Sean was Eleanor’s distant cousin and Lia’s uncle. He was the current CEO of

Flying Hawk Entertainment.
Although he was over fifty years old, he was handsome and didn’t look old at all,
After hanging up the phone, Bean walked over and smiled,
“Lili, you’re finally back!”
Lia lowered her head and smiled helplessly, “Sorry for all the trouble, Uncle Sean!”
Sean nodded slightly with affectionate eyes,
“The secretary will show you to your office. Work hard from now on, or I’ll deduct your salary,”
Lia smiled and felt warm. She quickly begged for mercy,
“Uncle Sean, please spare me. I promise to complete all my tasks.”
Sean laughed heartily and said, “I’ll leave the rest to your secretary, Go to your office first. Come to me if you have any questions.”
Lia nodded.
When she was about to leave, Sean called out to her.
He rubbed his hands as he said, “There are many handsome young men in the company. Feel free to go out with any of them. They are all yours!”
Lia was speechless. She pursed her lips and smiled helplessly. Then, she followed the secretary to her
office.
Lia’s office was just opposite Sean’s. It was no smaller than his office.
Her office had been tastefully decorated. It was clean and bright, and the air was filled with a floral fragrance.
The male secretary, Yoel Sanders, handed Lia a stack of documents.
Yoel was attentive and efficient. He was originally Jacob’s subordinate, but Jacob had assigned him to
Lia.
“Ms. Adams, this project is a debut training for newcomers. We’ll be working with a popular variety show. Those who are qualified and favored will stay with our company.’
Lia nodded. It was indeed the most direct way of recruiting new talents.
Lia flipped through the information casually. She paused when she saw Amber’s name on the last
page.
Yoel explained, “Amber Gray was added to the list at the last minute. She’s… a very well-connected person.”
