Chapter 7
“What’s the name of the victim?”
“Lia.”
Gerald was stunned by that statement and stared at Anisa in shock.
Seeing his reaction, Anisa sneered and tossed the surgical report at him.
“You want to negotiate? Well, why don’t you ask Ralph? That bitch, Amber, is a murderer who killed Lia’s child. How do you even plan to settle the score?”
Gerald hastily reached out to grab the report. Upon reading the report, his expression turned grim and he fell silent. He immediately walked out to call Ralph to tell him about the situation.
Lia had been pregnant all this while, yet no one knew about it! Now, Lia had miscarried because Amber had hit her. The issue had become more complicated!
On the other end of the line, however, no one picked up the phone.
“It’s all over now!” Gerald thought.
Ralph had left his phone on silent while he put Hugo to sleep.
Ever since Amber returned home, she had been crying nonstop. Ralph couldn’t leave her alone in this
state. So, he only left at dawn after everything had settled down.
The next day during noon, Gerald finally managed to contact Ralph.
“Has everything been resolved?” Ralph’s voice was raspy and filled with impatience.
Gerald stood in silence for a moment. “The victim refused to cooperate. I couldn’t discuss the
compensation with her.”
“Where is she? Is it that serious? Just offer her more money then,” Ralph said in a dark tone.
Gerald paused. “Mr. Walters, Ms. Gray had hit your wife, and…”
He gritted his teeth and blurted, “She was one month pregnant. But now, the child is gone!”
Ralph fell into complete silence.
He then raised his voice in disbelief, “What did you say? How could it be Lia?”
In an instant, he understood where the ominous feeling had come from. There was an immediate sense of unease that overflowed within him. It affected him so badly that he couldn’t even think straight.
His child, his very own child, was gone.
For the first time in his life, Ralph understood the pain from being stabbed in the heart. The overflowing sense of anguish began to suffocate him unwittingly.
He tossed his phone aside and rushed to the hospital.
Yet, he didn’t see Lia.
“Where is she?” he asked coldly.
Gerald hesitated to speak and glanced over to Anisa and her lawyer.
Anisa stared at Ralph with hostility, “She just came out from surgery and doesn’t want to meet you. Unfortunately, Mr. Walters, your child is gone.”
Ralph’s expression turned cold and stoic. His eyes were dark and gloomy, but they widened at the words Anisa had said.
Narrowing her eyes, Anisa continued to crush his heart. “It doesn’t matter anyway. Your illegitimate child is all grown up. I bet you don’t even care about your child with Lia, right? In fact, I should congratulate you for finally freeing yourself from this marriage.”
Ralph’s gaze darkened. For a moment, he couldn’t comprehend what Anisa had said.
“Where is Lia?” he asked in a hoarse voice. Somehow, he felt inexplicably powerless and flustered.
Ralph hadn’t held any expectations for Lia bearing his child. Yet, his heart still ached when he had received news that Lia had miscarried.
His child was gone. Ironically, he had even comforted the culprit and cared for someone else’s child last night.
The lingering pain in his heart crushed him into devastation.
His body started to tense up and he dug his fingernails into his palms.
Once again, Lia’s eyes appeared in his mind. He felt his heart clenching so tightly that it stung.
Anisa took a file from her lawyer’s hands and threw it at him.
She sneered, “Here are the divorce papers. Sign it, or we’ll sue Amber for murder and let her rot in jail!
